The Use and Abuse of Leisure

The cry nowadays is for more leisure. The working classes demand leisure, the middle classes demand leisure. It is only aristocrats, and big landowners, who do not raise this cry because they have already got leisure in plenty.

To this question different people have made different answers. Bernard Shaw thinks that people want leisure for contemplating the law of nature (Back to Methuselah). H.G Wales thinks that the leisured classes of the future study mathematical physics (Men like Gods).
As Mr. Aldous Huxley puts it: “These leisured masses of the future will do all the things which our leisured classes of the present time so conspicuously fail to do.’
