LUMS is one of the largest universities of Pakistan. The National Management Foundation (NMF), the sponsoring body of the University, was granted a charter by the Government of Pakistan for establishing the University on March 8, 1985. In addition to this the government also granted authorisation to set up other schools under the aegis of the "Lahore University of Management Sciences".
Lums have three schools.
SDSB - Suleman Dawood school of Business
The school offers a variety of programmes including an intensive full-time MBA, Executive MBA, a course-based PhD Management and a Bachelor's programme with a major in Accounting and Finance. In addition, the Rausing Executive Development Centre offers short duration programmes for executives. The school also carries out rigorous economic and management research through the Strategic Sectors Research Centre, Social Enterprise Development Centre and the Case Research Centre.
SHSSL - School of Humanities, Social Sciences and Law
The LUMS School of Humanities, Social Sciences and Law (SHSSL) enjoys a strong reputation of academic excellence, especially with its Departments of Social Science and Economics considered as the strongest in Pakistan. In 2004, school offers a law program. After the first batch of Law students graduated from the School in 2008, the school title was revised to the School of Humanities, Social Sciences and Law (SHSSL).
SSE - School of Science and Engineering
The LUMS School of Science and Engineering (SSE), initiated in 2008, is the first private research school for science and engineering in Pakistan . SSE offers a four year undergraduate program leading to a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Physics. In addition, SSE offers graduate degrees in Computer Engineering, Computer Science (MS and PhD) and Mathematics (PhD). In the near future SSE also plans to start graduate programs in other majors.
