Bromley High School was opened on 18 January 1883 and was the second school founded by the Girls' Public Day School Trust (now Girls' Day School Trust). At that time, Bromley was "a small country town, surrounded by pleasant woods and meadows". They take a full intake of two forms of pupils at 4+ (into Reception Year) and an additional girls at 7+(into Y3). The vast majority of Y6 girls transfer to the Senior School for 11+ entry: this is automatic, with no additional assessment required for internal candidates moving into the Senior School.
