About - St Johns Church of England Voluntary Controlled Primary School Colchester

St John’s was founded by the Church of England to provide an education according to the principles and practices of the church . This is a Church of England school that is proud to uphold and develop its Christian distinctiveness and this clearly underpins the school's work ensuring that the academic and pastoral needs of all its learners are met' (SIAMs inspection report June 2013). The school received the International Schools (Foundation) award in 2012.

Children from outside the catchment area are also welcomed into the school where the LA are the deciding authority on admissions. The intended number to admit in each academic year is 30 and priority will be given to those living in the area served by the school. All applications for a place, at the normal age of entry which are received on time for children living in the school catchment area will be allocated a place. There is no guarantee of a place for admission however sets of criterion should follow to determined whose being given the highest priority. Medical considerations may override the above. All four-year-old Reception children may be admitted full-time with effect from September 2012.
