About - The Downs Primary School and Nursery

The Downs Primary School and Nursery was originally opened in 1955 to serve the fast growing population of the New Town. In 1990 the school opened a new site with an attractive single storey building in red brick with a pantile roof. The whole site is enclosed within security fencing and accessed via security gating.

Years 1 to 6
All children start school (reception class) in the September before their fifth birthday. Places are offered subject to availability as all schools have a limited number of places within each year group, including reception. Application forms for children starting school in the reception year are distributed by the Local Health Authority by post, usually in October or November. Parents must complete the application form where reception and mid-year applications should be returned to the Planning and Admissions Department at County Hall or apply online. For nursery admission children are admitted at some time after their third birthday depending on the numbers on the waiting list and the availability of places. Parents must complete the application form and returned to school
