About - Westwood Academy

Westwood Academy is smaller than the average primary school. The school became an academy in August 2011 from Westwood Primary School to Westwood Academy. It is not part of an academy chain or any other formal partnership. Westwood Academy has nursery school inside the school site . It is run by Half Pint Nursery. It opened in 2008 and operates from a purpose-built, demountable building within the grounds of the academy. A maximum of 20 children may attend the nursery at any one time.

The application round for Reception intake starts in November and closes in the following January. Essex County Council also coordinate mid year application to the academy. Subject to the availability of places within the school’s standard number which is 30 for academic year 2013/2014.It is the policy of the Governors to admit the children of all parents who express a preference to have their children educated at this school. Looked after Children will be allocated a place providing an application is received by the closing date. Where more applications are received than there are places available, the Governors will follow criteria in priority order.The proximity (straight line distance is calculated by the LA) of the child’s home to the school will be taken as a tie-breaker.
