What is required be done

What possibly can be done to get over the fundamental problems of Balochistan and how to bring it at par with other provinces in matters of economic development, social uplift and also establish the writ of the provincial as well as that of the federal governments? The only course that is likely to succeed must begin with the determined implementation of the Sardari (Abolition) Act of 1976. Once sardars lose status of being heads of their respective tribes and with that their tribesmen become independent, the federal and provincial governments should move in with their plans as under: • A chain of good educational institutions should be set up throughout the length and breadth of the province. • The region should be opened up with the help of networks of highways. The big and small link roads will bring in economic prosperity by increasing volume of internal, inter- provincial and international trade. The development of infra-structure will open numerous windows to the outside world and population will start becoming pluralistic. • It must be kept in mind that the discarded sardars will be able make use of their nuisance value for a long time to come. To counter their subversive activities a network of cantonments must be built at strategic points,, In addition to the numerous mega projects that have already been started a master plan should cater for promotion of local skills supported by widespread facilities of micro finance. This will promote economic .activity generating incomes over a wider scale. Alleviation of poverty coupled with growing prosperity will make the tribesmen forget the era of dependence on the sardar. •  The prolonged perpetuation of tribal system has developed a culture of sardar-worship which should be countered by effective programs of public instruction through print and electronic media. Balochis are religious minded people and if they come to understand that sardar-worship is next to idol worship that is prohibited in Islam, they will listen and respond positively. They have been brainwashed to believe that God is in the heavens and the sardar is on the earth. They need to correct the orientation of their faith to know that God is every where and in his scheme of things sardar is an ordinary mortal.
