Katherines Primary School is a Foundation school with eleven classes and a Nursery. The school was opened in 1974 and it is a larger than average primary school. The school aim is to enable children to be all that they can, providing the best opportunities for them to make the best start in life.

Subject to our published number for the Reception year is 44. Children of parents living in the Katherines Estate would normally be admitted to the school. According to numbers it is usual to have 2 reception classes. The school provides for the full-time admission of all children offered a place in the reception year group from the September following their fourth birthday. Parents can request to defer admission until the child reaches compulsory school age in the school year, thus,the school will put on hold the defer entry and not offer and not offer it to another child. The parent would not, however, be able to defer entry beyond the beginning of the term after the child’s fifth birthday, nor beyond the academic year for which the original application was accepted.Morning session is available for parents opting to take up a part time place until child reach compulsory school age .
