SAT II Chemistry

Not all colleges require you to take SAT Subejct tests. Most of the institutions require only SAT Reasoning test. However; you will also find some colleges that will accept a good score on the Chemistry SAT Subject Test as part of their science admissions requirement. In other words, if a school requires three years of high school science, it may be possible to take two years of science and do well on a science SAT II Subject Test in a third field. You must prepare it if the school demand the score of SAT II Chemistry.

The level of the test is based on FSc first year course along with some topics from the second year course. Students of A Level can easily take it with some preparation.

A detailed dicussion of the topic below.

The SAT II Chemistry covers the Chemistry topics taught in A-Level and F.Sc. course of any Pakistani Board of education Chemistry course. ETS (Education Testing Sevice USA) categorises the test in eight categories:

  • Structure of Matter 21 Mcqs
  • Structure of Matter Includes atomic theory and structure, chemical bonding, and molecular structure; nuclear reactions
  • States of Matter 13 Mcqs
  • States of Matter Includes kinetic molecular theory of gases, gas laws, liquids, solids, and phase changes; solutions, concentration units, solubility, conductivity, and colligative properties
  • Reaction Types 12 Mcqs
  • Reaction Types Includes acids and bases, oxidation-reduction, and precipitation
  • Stoichiometry 10 Mcqs
  • Stoichiometry Includes the mole concept, Avogadro’s number, empirical and molecular formulas, percentage composition, stoichiometric calculations, and limiting reagents
  • Equilibrium and Reaction Rates 6 Mcqs
  • Equilibrium and Reaction Rates Including gas equilibria, ionic equilibria, Le Chatelier’s principle, equilibrium expressions; factors affecting rate of reaction
  • Thermodynamics 5 Mcqs
  • Thermodynamics Includes energy changes in chemical reactions and physical processes, Hess’s law, and randomness
  • Descriptive Chemistry 11 Mcqs
  • Descriptive Chemistry Includes physical and chemical properties of elements and their more familiar compounds, chemical reactivity and products of chemical reactions, simple examples from organic chemistry and environmental chemistry
  • Laboratory 7 Mcqs
  • Laboratory Includes equipment, measurement, procedures, observations, safety, calculations, and interpretation of results

This Module is organized according to these categories, allowing you to focus on each topic to whatever degree you feel necessary. Also, each question in the practice tests at the back of this book has been sorted into these categories, so that when you study your practice tests, you can very precisely identify your weaknesses and use this book to address them.

The writers of the SAT II Chemistry assume that you are able to deal with basic mathematical concepts, such as ratios and proportions. They also assume that you know the metric system. You will not be allowed to use a calculator on the test, which isn’t a big deal because you won’t have to do any calculations more difficult than multiplication.
