Faculties and Research Institutes of UoK

The Karachi University today is the biggest university in the country. It comprises eight faculties with which all the colleges of the city are affiliated. B.S., M.S., M.Phil. and Ph.D. classes under five of these faculties Arts, Science, Pharmacy, Management and Administrative Science and Islamic Learning are conducted on the campus, while under the Faculties of Medicine, law and Education it examines the students admitted to their affiliated colleges.

Khan Institute of Biotechnology & Genetic Engineering, HEJ Research Institute of Chemistry, Institute of Clinical Psychology, Institute of Environmental Studies, Institute of Marine Science, Institute of Space and Planetary Astrophysics, Institute of Sustainable Halophytes, National Center for Proteomics, National Nematological Research Centre, Pakistan Study Center, Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Chair, Umaer Basha Institute of Technology, and Sheikh Zayed Islamic Center.

Admission Eligibility


Preference will be given to those candidates who had selected same subject in Intermediate / H.S.C. for which they have applied for admission, except for those departments where clarification in this regard has been given in column of eligibility. However, in case of subjects such as International Relations, Social Work, Philosophy, Biotechnology, Genetics, Mass Communication, Physiology, Public Administration which are not taught at intermediate level, other.


For admissions in Masters Class, preference will be given to those candidates who had opted for the same subjects in B.A., B.Sc., or B.Com. However, in case of subjects which are not taught at graduate level (such as International Relations, Social Work, Philosophy, Mass Communication, Genetics, Physiology, Biotechnology, Public Administration) other alternative subjects are required.

MS/Ph.D PROGRAMS Eligibility

For MS/PhD Programs all applicants are required to qualify NTS GAT General.


The Faculty of Arts offers Diploma courses in Arabic, Sindhi, Urdu, Italian and Persian, and certificate courses in Arabic, Bengali, Hindi, Persian, Sindhi, Spanish, Turkish and Urdu. Only those students can take admission in a diploma course that holds a certificate in that language.
