If m and n are consecutive, one
of two things will be the case: either m is 1 greater than, or
1 less than, n. So, algebraically, either m = n – 1
or m = n + 1.
Whenever you get a question that asks about consecutive
integers, whether it be Data Sufficiency or Problem Solving, remember
that consecutive integers can always be expressed in this algebraic way.
In this case, we’re basically trying to determine whether m = n
– 1 or m = n + 1. Or perhaps m and n aren’t
consecutive at all and neither of these will be true.
