About - Highwoods Community Primary School

Highwoods Community Primary School was opened in January 1989 and is situated on a growing housing estate within easy reach of Colchester town centre. In a modern building that has 15 class bases, 2 halls, 2 libraries and an ICT suite. The school grounds are landscaped and include hard play areas, a playing field, an environmental area with a pond and an adventure playground.

All children will start full-time at school in the Autumn Term (September) in the Reception stage following their 4th birthday. With the Highwoods now is the admission authority and has responsibility for admissions. However the Planning & Admissions Department at Essex County Council co-ordinate arrangements for Foundation Stage admissions where parents must apply using the Common Application Form. Highwoods C P School has an agreed admission number of 60 pupils for entry to the Foundation Stage in the school year beginning September 2014. In the event that more applications received than places available, sets of criterion should be follow . Should there be more applicants than can be accommodated that fall within any one of these selected criteria, then places will be assigned first base on the straight line distance from the school and to those living closest to the school will be given priority. Exceptional medical circumstances (supported by medical evidence) may override the above (other than Looked After Children and previously looked after children). v>
