About - Holland Haven Primary School

The school was planned from 1965 when Essex County Council purchased a large house, called Brandon Lodge and its gardens. The site was formerly surrounded by a ditch that was known locally for the abundance of wild primroses that grew there. Hence school address can be found in Primrose Road. Brandon Lodge was demolished and a school called Primrose Primary School was built before changing to its existing name of Holland Haven Primary that was opened on 8th of September 1970.

The school will admit children to one of the reception classes in the year in which their fifth birthday falls, without reference to ability or aptitude. All children will be admitted in the September prior to their fifth birthday with the younger children having the option to come in initially on a part time basis. Parents can request to defer admission until the child reaches compulsory school age in the school year. When applications for admission exceed the number of places available, the following criteria will be applied. Should there be more applicants than spaces available in each category then priority will be given to the child who lives nearest to the school.
