What does Statement 1 tell us about x? Type your answer into the Text Box and click Continue.

1) x 3 < x 2

Statement (1) tells us that x is a number.

Countinue

There are only two cases where x 3 < x 2 :

First, when x is a negative integer.

Second, when x is a fraction.

Now, we know from the question stem that x is an odd integer, so the second case doesn’t apply and x must be negative. We already know that when x is –3 we get a "Yes" answer. The question is, would we get the same answer to the original question for all odd negative integers? Once again, we must consider exceptions.
