GRE Mathematics

The total number of questions in GRE Mathematics test is 66 all are multiple choice questions. The topic they cover include the contents usually taught at undergraduate level in almost all colleges of the world. Almost half of the questions based on common topics of calculus and its applications.
Basic algebra, linear algebra and number theory question contibutes about one fourth of the test. The remaining questions deal with other common areas of mathematics currently studied by undergraduates in many institutions.

The following content descriptions may assist students in preparing for the test. The percents given are estimates; actual percents will vary somewhat from one edition of the test to another.

• CALCULUS AND ITS APPLICATIONS — 50%
• Differential and Integral Calculus of one or more variables, its application to coordinate geometry, differential equations.
• ALGEBRA — 25%
• Basic algebraic operations commonly used in mathematics
• Matrix algebra, systems of linear equations, vector spaces, linear transformations, characteristic polynomials and eigen values and eigen vectors
• Group theory, theory of rings and modules, field theory and number theory
• ADDITIONAL TOPICS — 25%
• Sequences and series of numbers and functions, continuity, differentiability and integrability, and elementary topology of R and Rn
• Logic, set theory, combinatorics, graph theory and algorithms
• General topology, geometry, complex variables, probability and statistics, and numerical analysis
