ISSB - G.T.O. Tasks

The G.T.O. tasks are group exercises, wherein the candidates perform several tasks either collectively or individually, but always in association with the other candidates in the group. Some of the exercises are indoor while others are out door. There are:

Indoor Tasks

  • Group discussion
  • Speech test
  • Group Planning Exercise
  • Group obstacle tests
    • Snake race
    • Progressive Group tasks
    • Semi-Group tasks
    • Final Group task
  • Individual obstacle
  • Command task

These tasks can also be regarded as another type of situational tests but under practical conditions. Here, the candidate's behaviour as influenced by the group is observed to estimate his personality traits. How the individual influences the group, how far the identifies himself with the group interests, his ability to co-operate and accept criticism and how the group accepts him are some of the factors which are specially observed. Simultaneously, his physical fitness, power of practical reasoning, willingness to take risks, leadership attributes, consistency, initiative, drive, enthusiasm, power of expression, etc., are also noticed. The G.T.O. is thus able to evaluate, by personally observing the candidate's behaviour, as a member of the group.
