And one more. Identify the correct answer choice, and then click Continue.

Following her first novel's popularity and success, the author's publisher presented her with a contract for three more books.

the author's publisher presented her with a contract for three more books
the author presented her publisher with a contract with three more books on it
the publisher presented the author with a contract for three more books
the author was presented with a contract involving three more books by the publisher
the author received a contract from her publisher for three more books

The modifier is the phrase "Following…success." Whose novel has been popular and successful? Well, "her novel" indicates that it's the author who's being described. Therefore, the author, not the author's publisher, is being modified, so the author must be right up there next to the modifying phrase. This eliminates Choices (1) and (3).
Which is best? A contract "with three more books on it," a contract "involving three more books," or a contract "for three more books"? The first two are awkward constructions while the last sounds perfectly fine.
Select Choice (5).
Following her first novel's popularity and success, the author received a contract from her publisher for three more books. This sentence is equivalent in meaning to the question stem, but is grammatically correct.
