On segment JN above, JL = 38 and KN = 44. If KL is 3 times the length of LM, and if MN is half the length of JK, what is the length of KM?
The question stem states that KL is three times the length of LM. Since we are assuming for the moment that KM = 32, we must divide this number by 4 to get 4 equal lengths of 8; KL consists of three of these lengths, or 24, while LM consists of 1 length, or 8.
