What is the difference between correlation and causation?

If A and B appear together, A and B are correlated with each other. Causation is far more specific-either A must cause B, or B must cause A.

1. Whenever the TV networks begin showing lots of reruns, beach attendance increases. Therefore, reruns must cause people to flock to the beach.

The author assumes that because reruns and high beach attendance are correlated, reruns must have caused people to go to the beach. But couldn't higher beach attendance cause networks to rerun shows instead of showing new ones to a smaller audience? We can't really pin down the direction of this relationship. All we know is that reruns and beach attendance are correlated.
