Grammar And Clarity

Sentence correction questions test two verbal skills: grammar knowledge, and recognition of effective expression. The test directions refer to grammar knowledge as "correctness of expression." However, an answer choice could contain no grammatical errors and still be incorrect due to awkward construction or wordiness. So this question type also tests verbal clarity and precision, or what the directions call "effectiveness of expression."

In this module we'll focus on grammatical skill and show you common errors and their remedies. The Challenge module will review the remaining flaws, and will address the "effectiveness of expression" issue by showing you how to find the best-written answer choice.
