Lesson: Sentence Correction Basic - 21t01

Maintaining Structure

Answer the in-format question below, paying special attention to issues of parallelism. When you're done, click Continue.
Frustrated by her boss's excessive demands, Elissa determined that she would neither stay late nor was she willing to work during the weekend.
nor was she willing to work during the weekend
nor would she work this weekend
nor will to work during the weekend
and she was not willing to work during the weekend
nor work during the weekend
"Neither…nor" sets up a parallel structure, so the words that follow each part have to have the same structure. Here they're followed by verbs in different tenses ("to stay" and "was willing"), so the original sentence is wrong. Eliminate Choice (1), and Choices (2), (3) and (4) for making the same mistake.
Skip this step since we've only got one answer left.
Only Choice (5) remains.
Frustrated by her boss's excessive demands, Elissa determined that she would neither stay late nor work during the weekend. Sounds good.
